Overview

Aileen Cannon is the U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Florida who dismissed the federal classified documents case against Donald Trump and subsequently permanently blocked the public release of special counsel Jack Smith’s report. Her rulings have been the primary judicial vehicle for suppressing the public record of the classified documents investigation.

Cannon represents the judicial extension of the accountability-suppression architecture. Her unlawful-appointment theory has done dual work: dissolving the prosecution and dissolving the public record of the prosecution. The same legal theory that ended the case is now being used to end the account of what the case was about. The 11th Circuit appeal is the remaining accountability pathway.
